Thank you to everyone who took our survey, commented, e-mailed and facebooked (is that really a verb now?) your thoughts, ideas and opinions on the images I posted last week. Your input made our choice much more simple and clear.
At final count, the church image was favorite at 33 percent, followed by the shadows in the desert preferred by 27 percent of you. The thought was the church is perfect for an art-y beautiful image as a postcard, but the desert shadows fit better for Burning Man.
The popcorn shot Lila took in France was also a favorite, but consensus seemed to say it would be perfect for the What Lila Sees part of the website, but maybe not something we should use to represent us as a whole.
Many of you also suggested a split run.
We basically agreed with all the above and will do exactly as suggested. We won't do them all at once but will work toward three separate cards. One smaller one for Burning Man and then a split run of postcard size cards, one for What Lila Sees, the other to represent The Future Is Red as a whole.
So far, we've designed the Burning man one. It's playing card size, double-sided and printed on a glossy thick paper stock. Tomorrow, we see proof.
Since so many of you had a hand the creation of this card, we though perhaps you'd like a first look at it too. A bit blurry in it's online incarnation, but here it is, front and back:
It looks awesome! I love how the flip side is an off-centered copy in red (for thefutureisred.com) of the front of the card. Can't wait to see the others.

What you chose looks really good. I missed the voting, but I like what you have.

This is fabulous! I haven't been around in awhile, but I can't wait to dig back into your blog.

Thanks, Collete. It's been a while since I designed anything in Photoshop, and I'm glad it all came back to me.
Also, the two sides are actually different photos. Both taken in San Pedro de Atacama but in totally different areas. The front is from Valle de La Luna (where NASA has been known to simulate moon conditions for experiments and to test equipment). The other is from the salt flats in the desert.
The shadow in both as somewhat of a mistake.

I'm curious to know which you would have chosen.

Glad you like it. I'm pretty happy with it. Still waiting for the call to go see the proof, though.
I know what you mean. I've been horribly behind in my blog reading since we've been back in the US. I think the summer is a slowish time too.
Glad to hear from you. I hope all has been going well.

I think it's fabulous! It evokes a familar feeling and yet a bit otherworldly - same as Burning Man. I love happy accidents that end up working out better than you could've planned. I really like how the photo on the back with the copy actually fits. Wonderful job! I can't wait to see the others - any chance you could mail me one of those cards?

Great card! I think it is a perfect fit for Burning Man. Although, I have to say - I was a bit partial to the stone doors, that was really a magnificent photo. Very captivating.
On a related note, I cannot wait to hear about the Burning Man trip. It's been idealized in my head since I read about it back in college, and I look forward to hearing a real account of someone who has actually participated.

I feel old. I also have a problem with saying 'text' or 'texted', I like to say 'text messaged' because text is not a verb. But it sure is a tongue twister to say my version quickly.
